Operations

This serves as a directory of recent and historical US military operations relating to Africa since the end of the Cold War.

The US military has a long history of intervention and assistance in Africa.  Ever since the Barbary Wars of the early nineteenth century, reference to which is made in Marines’ Hynm, the US military has been aware of the potential for conflict on the continent.  In spite of this, however, mention of US involvement in Africa is always treated with a air of “newness.”  This is why this section not only covers recent and ongoing US military operations relating to the continent, but also entries on historical operations.
