Summary: A follow-on to Operation Sandy Beach, Operation Sandy Beach II was conducted between January and May 1963 by elements of the US Air Force’s 1st Air Commando Group and Army Special Forces personnel. Similar to Sandy Beach, two C-123 aircraft flew to Bamako Mali, and additional personnel and supplies were delivered by accompanying C-124 aircraft.
During Sandy Beach II, three hundred and forty-five Malian paratroopers were trained and US forces supervised 2,000 individual jumps.
